THURSDAY, Oct. 12, 2017 -- A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel on Thursday recommended approval of a gene therapy that could grant the gift of sight to young people with a rare type of inherited vision loss.
The panel members' vote was unanimous. The FDA is not required to follow the advice of its panels, but it usually does.
FRIDAY, July 28, 2017 -- Dark spots that appear on the iris -- the colored part of the eye -- aren't cancerous, but these "eye freckles" could signify other issues related to excessive sun exposure, researchers say.
Scientists found outdoorsy people who develop these spots may be at greater risk for cataracts, macular degeneration and other diseases related to sunlight.
